Te Kaupapa Kaitiaki Consultation
Te Kōpu a Kānapanapa, a statutory body with members from Te Kotahitanga o Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Waikato Regional Council, and Taupō District Council, want to hear from you on the draft Te Kaupapa Kaitiaki – Taupō catchment plan.
The plan will identify the significant issues, values, vision, objectives, desired outcomes, and other relevant matters for the Taupō catchment in order to:
- promote the sustainable and integrated management of the environment in the Taupō catchment for the benefit of present and future generations;
- provide for the relationship of Ngāti Tūwharetoa and their culture and traditions with their ancestral lands, water, geothermal resources, sites, wāhi tapu and other taonga; and,
- respect Ngāti Tūwharetoa tikanga in the management of the Taupō catchment.
This plan will influence how Councils develop rules in regional and district plans. It considers aspects related to how water is managed, and biodiversity is protected. It will also influence how Councils prioritise spending through their Long-term plans. Importantly, this plan signals much greater involvement by Ngati Tūwharetoa iwi and hapū in decisions that impact on the health and wellbeing of the Taupō catchment.
