Bernhard Chrustowski likely to return as councillor
Progress results for the Taupo-Kaingaroa ward by-election are in and former councillor Bernhard Chrustowski leads by almost 1000 votes with 95 percent of the returned voting papers counted.
Around 350 votes are still to be counted, including special votes. Voting officially closed for the by-election at midday today. The final tallies for candidates will change once all voting papers have been counted.
Preliminary results will be available later today.
The declaration of results is expected next week with swearing in to take place at the council's June meeting.
