Feedback sought on memorial guidelines
30 May 2014
Taupo District Council is inviting feedback to help guide the formation of guidelines around remembrance activities for friends and family on council land.
Policy manager Nick Carroll said the council often received requests from people and it was decided that memorial guidelines would ensure they are dealt with in a fair and consistent manner.
It is a complex issue and we appreciate that many of our residents feel a strong connection to the Taupo district, and some like to preserve that connection through the use of memorials, he said.
The council receives a range of different requests relating to memorials, including;
donation and installation of furniture, usually seats
erection of plaques or monuments
planting a tree (sometimes including a plaque)
spreading of ashes
burial of placentas
Anyone wanting to offer feedback can do so online at www.taupo.govt.nz, request a hard copy from the council office, or phone 0800 ASK TDC. Feedback needs to be received no later than 5pm on June 30.
