Friends of the Library turn ten
17 June 2014
Taupo's Friends of the Library are celebrating their 10th anniversary this month and the community are invited to join in the celebrations.
Mayor David Trewavas will open the celebrations at 11am on Thursday, June 26 by cutting the cake and joining in the festivities.
Library manager Luisa Haines said the Friends of the Library helped make a lively, vibrant place to visit with regular events and activities. They organise events like the quiz night, Christmas Carols in the Library, and regular book talks, she said. Their support, both financially and practically, has contributed immensely to the library's popularity.
The group has had a steady increase in membership over the past decade and six of the original members remain actively involved. The group played a significant part in a major revamp of the library in 2008 which saw it nearly double in size and also supports the library's summer holiday reading programme and new entrant scheme.
Ms Haines said the 10th anniversary was an important milestone and it would be great to see people come along to recognise the Friends of the Library's efforts. This is a chance for library users to come and meet those who support the library and help celebrate with a piece of cake, she said.
