Some pools at AC Baths will briefly be out of action on Thursday 21 August so a generator can be safely installed at the complex for Civil Defence emergencies.
The sauna, indoor 25m lane pool, learn-to-swim pool and private pools will be closed from 6am to 3pm, then reopen as normal.
Fitness and aquatics manager Virginia Munro said the leisure pool and outdoor 25m pool would be open as usual on Thursday, but the power shut down means the temperatures could vary slightly from normal. The caf, toilets, showers and changing rooms will be open as usual with slight temperature fluctuations also possible in the showers.
There are still plenty of options for people wanting to use AC Baths for this day of work, Ms Munro said. It's important we get this part of the job done so we can get the generators installed and operational as fast as possible.
The generator is one of two being installed in Taupo, with the other at the Great Lake Centre. Both sites are designated Civil Defence centres and could be used if disaster struck. The installation of the generators would ensure the sites were prepared to cope with power outages.
At the Great Lake Centre, the power will be shut down from 7pm on August 27 until 5am the following morning. This will not affect the community. The work is scheduled to be completed by early September.
