Intersections in town centre taking shape
14 October 2015
The upgrade of three town centre intersections is progressing well, with only the planting left to do at the intersection of Ruapehu and Tamamutu streets.
Contractors have completed all construction, paving and stone work at the site, with our parks and reserves team coming in this week to plant out the gardens with native grasses and vegetation. All plants should be in by the end of the week.
Up the road at the intersection of Gascoigne and Tamamutu streets, contractors are working on the paving outside Suncourt Sushi, Thai Delight and the Super Dollars store. They will start on the stone work outside Suncourt Sushi this week.
Outside Dick Smith, the gardens were demolished earlier this week and a street light installed. One small triangular garden that houses a small tree has been retained and will be incorporated into the new look intersection.
Work at the intersection of Gascoigne and Tamamutu streets is expected to be completed by early November.
The intersection of Tongariro and Tamamutu streets is the last one planned for the revamp, and work will begin at this site at the end of the month.
