Language of the Line
11 August 2014
What starts as a simple drawing can evolve into a work of art, and this month Taupo Museum has an exhibition focussing on the art of drawing.
Language of the Line is an exhibition celebrating the art of drawing, sketching and doodling and includes work by local and national artists who use a wide variety of styles. Artists were asked to submit their works in black ink, pencil, pen or charcoal on A3 sized white art paper.
Exhibitions officer Kerence Stephen said the exhibition had a beautiful simplicity. Keeping the brief simple and limiting use of materials and colour has challenged the artists to express their creativity and use their drawing skills in their own individual way, while giving the exhibition itself consistency of colour and size, she said. Throughout history, drawing has been regarded as the foundation for artistic practice and is considered one of the major forms of expression and creativity.
Over 50 artists have taken part in the exhibition, with most featuring one or two works. All work displayed will be for sale.
Language of the Line opens in the main gallery at Taupo Museum on Saturday, August 16. Taupo Museum is open seven days from 10am to 4.30pm. Entry is free to children and Taupo District residents with proof of address.
