Matuku Street gets new wastewater line
16 May 2014
A new wastewater main is about to be installed in Taupo's Matuku Street.
Contractor Fulton Hogan will start installing the new line to the Matuku Street pump station on Monday and the work is expected to take about six weeks. The new line will connect to the main wastewater pipe near Lake Terrace about 450 metres away.
Infrastructure manager Denis Lewis said Fulton Hogan staff will be working between 7am and 6pm, and residents may notice some noise and vibration during this time.
"Contractors will be working hard to keep any disruption to a minimum and the co-operation of residents is appreciated," he said.
"The installation of a new line is to replace the existing pipe that has reached the end of its life."
Most of the work will take place on the roadside berm, however some will occur on the street itself, which means the roadway may be reduced to one lane at times.
Residents will have uninterrupted vehicle access to their properties, however on-street parking will be reduced due to closure of the road shoulder.
