Taupo Framed
30 September 2015
Do you want to contribute to an exhibition made up of quintessential Taupo images and art works? Taupo Framed is coming to Taupo Museum for the first time, and this is your opportunity to take part.
Exhibitions officer Kerence Stephen said the exhibition's format was based on the One Hundred canvases exhibitions held in the past, but this time artists would have their work framed instead of on canvas. The use of boxed frames in this exhibition opens the exhibition up to a variety of mediums so will appeal to a wider group of artists, she said. We hope to see photography, painting, printing, 3D works, weaving, carving and clay and fibre works being put forward for this exhibition.
Each artist who wanted to take part can purchase a frame from Taupo Museum for $10. They use this to produce an original artwork of their own which reflects the theme Taupo Framed'. We know there are a lot of beautiful sights and settings in Taupo that can be used as inspiration for fantastic art work, Ms Stephen said.
Artists return their framed artwork to the museum to be hung in the Taupo Framed exhibition, which will run over summer. The idea is that tourists and visitors to the museum have the opportunity to purchase an original artwork made in Taupo to take home as a souvenir, Ms Stephen said. It's a great way for them to remember their holidays spent in our stunning district.
The exhibition is being sponsored by the Friends of the Museum. For more information, visit the museum or contact them on 07 376 0414.
