Temporary health warning lifted at Two Mile Bay
The temporary health warning put in place at Two Mile Bay, following the wastewater spill into Lake Taupo nine days ago, has been lifted.
All water sampling results today returned bacterial levels below the guidelines set by public health as acceptable for recreational swimming, and signage has been removed.
The spill was caused by fat and wipes blocking a wastewater pipe which caused raw material to run out of a manhole into a stormwater outlet. It entered the lake near Hawai Street.
Chief executive Gareth Green said an investigation was now underway into what extra work could be done to prevent similar spills happening in the future.
"One spill into the lake is one too many and it is clear what we have been doing is not enough," he said.
"We, like the rest of the community, are extremely frustrated at these events and we want to do everything we can to stop them from happening in the future."
