Time running out for memorial guidelines feedback
25 June 2014
You can still give feedback on the proposed guidelines for remembrance activities on Taupo District Council land, but time is running out.
The council wants to create guidelines around these activities to ensure members of the community are all dealt with in a fair and consistent manner.
Policy manager Nick Carroll said the council often received requests from people about remembrance activities. We understand many people in our community want to remember their loved ones in different ways, he said. We want to be able to help them do that while respecting the different beliefs and traditions people in our community hold.
The guidelines are likely to cover the donation and installation of furniture, the erection of plaques and monuments, the planting of trees, spreading of ashes and burial of placentas.
Anyone wanting to offer feedback can do so online, request a hard copy from the council office, or phone 0800 ASK TDC. Feedback needs to be received no later than 5pm on June 30.
