Tributes flow for former deputy mayor
28 May 2014
Tributes have flowed today for former Deputy Mayor Keith Crate who passed away early this morning.
Mayor David Trewavas said it was with great sadness he and his colleagues learned of Mr Crate's passing.
"Keith was a loyal, trusted and hardworking deputy mayor, councillor and friend, and our community is all the richer for having him advocate on their behalf," said Mr Trewavas.
"Keith's enthusiasm for the Taupo District knew no bounds and even up until late last week he was talking about new and inventive ways to further cement our reputation as the Events Capital of New Zealand.
"His legacy will be a number of successful events, like the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge, which he worked tirelessly to promote and for that we will be forever grateful," he said.
"We extend our deepest sympathy to Keith's family at this sad time. We will miss Keith greatly."
