Turangi's Service Delivery Centre has reopened in its original location following extensive renovations.
In addition, the facility is now home to more than 20 Department of Conservation staff.
The centre was officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony last Friday.
Taupo District Mayor David Trewavas says the joint use of the building makes perfect sense.
"It's great that our two agencies have come together to work collaboratively, and I would like to thank everyone involved for making this a reality. This could be a model that works elsewhere and we are very proud to be working alongside the Department of Conservation."
Department of Conservation Central North Island operations director Allan Munn also applauded the new arrangement.
"Both we and the council have significant areas of overlap in the work we do to manage people and places, with the intention of making the environment we live in a better place. The fact that we are now co-located with Taupo District Council can only mean a better and closer relationship that will lead to the better management of the places we administer."
