Voting for the Taupō-Kaingaroa ward by-election ends at midday on Friday so if you are still to return your voting papers drop them into the council office .
The by-election is being conducted by postal ballot in a similar way to the October 2013 elections. The successful candidate will be elected using the first past the post electoral system.
As of this morning, 5736 voting papers had been returned. Voting closes on noon on Friday, May 23. Any voting papers yet to be sent can be handed into the ballot box in the council's Lake Terrace office to ensure they arrive on time.
Deputy electoral officer Tina Jakes said this was the last chance for voters to have a hand in deciding on the new face around the council table. Voting is the best way to get one's opinions heard, she said. Voting gives people the power to determine our future leaders, so it's important we take the opportunity to do so.
The nominees for the vacancy are Doreen Blyth, Ian Chamberlain, Bernhard Chrustowski, Linda Hudson, Edna Isaacs, Andrew Leiataua, Rex Mincher, William Regan, Doug Simmons and Tristy Vadnjal.
