Work begins on Whakamaru water pump station
1 July 2014
Whakamaru residents will soon benefit from an upgraded water pump station which will provide them with a more reliable water supply.
The pump station is being upgraded due to its age.
Work on the station, built in the 1980s, begins on Monday with EJ Contractors awarded the job of removing the current pumps and installing a new set. They will also realign and reconfigure the water mains so they can be controlled more simply and effectively.
Taupō District Council infrastructure manager Denis Lewis said contractors planned to shut the pumps down temporarily when required over the next few weeks so they could carry out the work. It may cause some minor disruption to water flows for residents, but we hope it will be for relatively short periods, Mr Lewis said.
The project is expected to be completed by late July.
