Get involved with Youth Week 2014
9 May 2014
Teenagers want something to do? Then this is the week you've been waiting for - Youth Week 2014, with all kinds of activities on offer for our young people.
Youth Week runs from May 17-25 and is celebrated around the country with events for our youth. Over the past six years about 184,000 young people have participated in more than 1200 events nationwide. This year activities in the Taupō District include a group fitness event, youth neighbourhood events, a road safety expo, a family fun day and a concert for youth.
The events are run by youth organisations like Youthtown, Caf for Youth, Freedom Youth, Bluelight, and Waiariki Institute who partner with us at the council. It also involves youth leaders in the community from Leader in You and the Youth Advisory Group.
We help to source funding and coordinate Youth Week initiatives to help young people become involved with their community.
Community projects officer Hellmuth Hartung said the council is encouraging youth to plan and deliver their own events.
For us, it's about celebrating and recognising young people as a fantastic part our community who can do amazing things, he said.
