A two year work programme will soon get underway to renew
water mains and wastewater rising mains in parts of Taupō.
The areas selected for renewal were primarily based on the
age and material of the infrastructure, with both the water and wastewater
pipes coming to their end of their life.
It includes phased works along parts of Tauhara Road, Puia
Street, Rifle Range Road, Konini Street, Taharepa Road, Crown Road, Miro St,
Chad Street, Mere Road, Titiraupenga St in Taupo and Caroline Drive in Bonshaw
Park.
Infrastructure manager Denis Lewis said a decision was made
to combine the pipeline renewals to reduce tendering, project management and
construction costs for council, as well as make a larger work package more
attractive to contractors.
“Along with this, we’ve grouped the renewals into specific
areas to streamline the work and minimise disruption to the community – it
means the road will only have to be dug once.
“Renewing these pipelines will greatly improve resilience
to the network,” he said.
The project is expected to cost $2.94 million and is
budgeted for within the 2018-28 long term plan. The first phase of work will
begin February and follows a similar programme carried out in Turangi and
Tokaanu in 2019.
