Kinloch wastewater treatment plant upgrade nearing completion

Work to increase capacity at the Kinloch wastewater treatment plant has been progressing well, with work continuing throughout lockdown under strict COVID-19 protocols.

The $15.5 million upgrade will not only increase the plant’s capacity to treat wastewater but will accommodate ongoing and future growth in Kinloch.

Council infrastructure manager Denis Lewis said the project was on track despite interruptions caused by COVID-19 restrictions and the plant should be commissioned prior to Christmas.

“The upgrade will also improve the reliability and resilience of the plant,” Mr Lewis said, “and that means we can continue to manage our wastewater responsibly so that we can protect the health of our community in an environmentally sustainable way.”

“This has been a fairly complex and quite large-scale piece of work and we’d like to thank our contractor Spartan Construction and the project team for delivering this essential project under very difficult circumstances.

“We are on track to have the plant running just prior to Christmas, but there will be a few months of work following this to finalise the site and we’d also like to thank everyone in the community for their patience while this has been underway.”
