New Acacia Bay and Mapara water connection goes live next week

Acacia Bay and Mapara residents will soon be connected to the Taupō town water supply.

After 18 months of work where a new water main was installed next to Acacia Bay Road – and a new shared use footpath constructed at the same time – as well as work on associated pump stations, the last major piece of work prior to connecting the system will be carried out between Monday 11 April and Thursday 14 April.

Asset manager water Tom Swindells said this was the final stage of work that would make the water supply much more resilient for Acacia Bay and Mapara residents.

“This has been a very big project,” Mr Swindells said, “as anyone driving along Acacia Bay Road last year will have seen. The project was funded in the 2018/2028 Long Term Plan and we are really pleased to see it nearing completion.

"The team will be performing a major excavation on site at the intersection of Reeves Road and Acacia Bay Road next week to prepare for the final connection, so we’re asking people to drive carefully around the work site and also to factor in extra time for their journey as there may be delays.

"We’re also asking residents of Acacia Bay and Mapara to avoid any non-essential water usage; normal usage like showering, cooking and flushing toilets is fine, but please put off washing your car or the like until this work is complete. "
