Water connection upgrades coming soon for Atiamuri and Whakamaru
Taupō District Council will be upgrading water connections at properties throughout Atiamuri and Whakamaru in the coming weeks.
As part of the project, each connection will be upgraded to include a backflow device and a water meter. Backflow devices help protect the water supply by preventing the backflow of water from properties into the water mains. Water meters are also being installed to help Council better understand and improve leakage from the public network.
It is important to note that water meters are not being installed for water-use charging. Water-use charging of ordinary residential properties is not part of the Long-Term Plan.
Where practical, the upgraded water connections will be moved to the road reserve to improve maintenance access for Council staff and contractors. The new connections will be installed underground in a water connection box with a blue lid.
Contractor Civtec Ltd will be completing the works on behalf of Council. Signs will be erected around Whakamaru and Atiamuri before they start on site.
