Our contractors Atrax Group NZ and TR Construction have kicked off work on the new weighbridge, which should be operational by early May.
Taupō District Council received $100,000 from the Covid-19 Response and Recovery Fund, with Council funding the residual amount of $148,000.
The Government is interested in obtaining more waste data to enable it to make informed investment decisions in the waste minimisation field.
Taupō District Council asset manager solid waste and stormwater Brent Aitken said the new weighbridge will help Council provide more accurate and timely data for this purpose.
The new weighbridge will include a license plate recognition camera, and vehicles will be required to weigh in and weigh out to dispose of their refuse and green waste.
The weighbridge will be placed after the recycling area, where it will still be free to drop off recyclable items.
There will also be a reconfiguration of the roading layout to accommodate the new weighbridge.
“During the construction period there may be small delays, so please be patient,” Brent said.
