Project overview
Work is under way to improve safety and traffic flow at the intersection of Napier Road, Arrowsmith Avenue and Kiddle Drive. The intersection is being changed to make it safer for school children, cyclists, pedestrians and cars.
We’ve heard residents concerns about the high crash rate at the intersection and have worked with some traffic specialists to design a solution that will work for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists, with safety being the number one priority.
Currently, traffic travelling on Napier Road has the right of way. However, once the intersection is redesigned, right of way will be for those travelling between Kiddle Drive and Arrowsmith Ave.
There will also be cycle lanes, new road signage, new turning lanes and other safety improvements added.
Why not a roundabout?
Given the size of the intersection, a reasonable size roundabout would be required and that would be quite costly. The change of right of way can be implemented quickly and is the most cost effective solution. We are still investigating a roundabout and have allowed some funding for the 2026/27 and 2027/28 financial year should it be required at that time.
When?
Contractors Camex started the work in September and we expect the project will be completed in early-mid October.
