Stormwater
Stormwater inlets around the district are easily identified by the distinctive aluminium trout symbols.
The fish are a visual reminder that whatever washes off streets and footpaths goes down the drains and eventually ends up in the lake.
Our responsibilities
We maintain, modify and extend the stormwater disposal and land drainage systems to manage surface water run-off from all urbanised catchments and to minimise flood damage. Stormwater pipe systems are not designed to handle all storm situations. Storm events greater than those the system has been designed for will result in some surface flooding. These will ideally occur down predetermined overland flow paths.

Connections
With the exception of certain areas as set out in the District Plan, private properties are not connected to the stormwater system. This is because the Taupo district has porous soils that allow most private property rainwater to be easily discharged onsite.
To protect our lake
- Dispose of litter in rubbish bins
- Wash cars on lawns so that soapy water soaks into the ground
- Store chemicals in well aired lockable shed
- Clean up chemical spills around the home by soaking up the mess and disposing of unused paint and domestic garden sprays at the landfill recycling centre.
