Big weekend for events in the Taupō District
It's a big weekend for events in the Taupō District with popular local artists playing alongside L.A.B at Taupō Amphitheatre, some of the world’s top disc golfers at Spa Park and hydroplane racing on Lake Maraetai.

- Redoubt Street from Tongariro St to Story Place is closed from 12 noon Friday 17 January to midnight Saturday 18 January.
- Access to Story Place will be via the junction of te HeuHeu Street and Tongariro Street. During these times the harbour can still be accessed via Ferry Road.
Our friends at the Lake Taupō Harbourmaster would also like to remind boaties of the restricted area on the Waikato River.
- Vessels are not permitted to anchor or secure to the banks of the river unless authorised by the Harbourmaster.
- Restricted area extends from the southern end of Nukuhau Marina to the Control Gates Bridge.
- Vessels must not enter the section the Waikato River from 270m upstream of the Control Gates Bridge or beyond the first set of debris booms heading downriver (marked by yellow buoys).

2025 Taupō Classic

Taupo Disc Golf welcome some of the world’s top Disc Golfers to compete in this championship event, part of the 2025 Tour Down Under.
Disc golfers tee off at 8am each day and Spa Park will be busier than normal with reduced parking.

Hydro Thunder
- Lake Maraetai, Mangakino
- Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 January
Lake Maraetai will host the fastest racing boats on water competing in Hydroplane Racing, a highlight of the New Zealand calendar.
Plus, it’s NZ v USA with two-time World Champion Warwick Lupton racing!
The boats all follow strict Check, Clean and Dry protocols to prevent the movement of any pests such as gold clams. You can find out more at www.mpi.govt.nz/clam
Access to the lake will be made available to the public under control. Expect some noise and a busier than normal boat ramp area with racing starting 10.15am until about 5pm.
