Call for artists to re-'cycle' for art
Taupo Museum is putting together a community exhibition to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge this year.
Exhibitions officer Kerence Stephen said the team wanted to bring together a collection of artworks created with recycled items in a bike theme, or created featuring recycled parts of bikes.
"The 40th anniversary of this iconic sporting event is something we really want to embrace, and we know there are many budding artists out there who can do this creatively," she said. "The exhibition will be called Re-Cycle, so we are after any art work that incorporates bicycles and recycling together."
The exhibition will be held in November in conjunction with the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge and will run alongside a 40th anniversary history of the event display in the main gallery. Ms Stephen said the museum was looking for all kinds of art, from sculpture to paintings, mixed media and beyond.
"We'll have a lot of cycle-loving visitors coming to the museum to see the exhibitions at this time, and we know it's something they will really appreciate," Ms Stephen said.
Artists who put forward their work for the exhibition can choose whether or not they want it to be for sale. To submit an art work for the exhibition, visit Taupo Museum or contact Kerence Stephen at kstephen@taupo.govt.nz. Work will need to be completed and ready for display by November 1 2016.
