About Taupō Airport
Taupō Airport is located eight kilometres south of Taupō's town centre and has approximately 35,000 aircraft movements per year between the main centres in the North Island.

Airport upgrade project
A new award-winning terminal building at Taupō Airport, designed by local architects Shelter Architects and built by Taupō firm Watts Construction, was formally opened on 9 March 2023.
The opening followed an upgrade to the airport’s carpark, with a new sealed parking facility with more spaces and lighting. In late 2024, work will begin on an extension to the airport apron.
