Fire hydrants
Fire hydrant use and permits
Taupo District Council has over 2000 fire hydrants around the district.
These hydrants are for fire fighting purposes and to assist in the management of health and safety wellbeing in our communities.
A permit is required to draw water from a fire hydrant. Any unlawful hydrant use or other water extraction is prohibited and penalties will be applied to anyone undertaking unauthorised filling.
Changes to hydrant use from March 1, 2019
Anyone requiring access to water from Council hydrants after March 1, 2019 must complete our new permit application form and return to Council for approval. All past hydrant permits issued will no longer be valid. Please refer to our Hydrant Use Policy for further information.
If you have any questions about the hydrant policy or application process, please contact us on 07 376 0899.
