Taupo District Libraries and Taupo Museum staff are calling on the community to get involved in World War 1 commemorations through Kete Taupo, an online resource that allows the community to share their World War 1 stories.
The collection includes photo albums from two soldiers who went to war, letters from a young soldier killed in action and a programme for a Service of Thanksgiving' in Waitahanui when the war ended.
Luisa Haines, Library and Museum Manager, says It's a great opportunity for families to get together and look at what they have in the family treasure. Photos and memories like these are a way for us to get a glimpse of the past and gain a better understanding of how the War impacted New Zealanders.'
Members of the community can share photographs, letters, postcards, memorabilia or stories relating to World War 1. As well as being available online, some content will be displayed in an exhibition at Taupo Museum from 24 October 2014.
You can add your stories online here. If you would like more information or help sharing your memorabilia or stories please email kete@taupo.govt.nz or visit the Taupo District Libraries or Taupo Museum.
