Child restraints focus of free event this Saturday
24 February 2015
The Warehouse, Parents Centre, REAP and Taupo District Council will join together this Saturday to offer a free child car seat checking clinic.
Road safety co-ordinator Dianna Harrison said The Warehouse was hosting the event which would allow people to drop-in and check their child restraint was fitted correctly for free. Ruben the Road Safety Bear would also be there.
Those who had their child restraints checked at the clinic would also go in the draw to win a free car seat. In December during routine checks in Taupo, only 11 out of 89 children were correctly restrained. Three people received fines for not having their children restrained at all.
Car crashes are one of the biggest dangers to New Zealand children and for a car seat to perform correctly in a crash it needs to be installed properly, Dianna said.
This is a great opportunity for parents and caregivers to get their child's car seat checked by a certified child restraint technician, she said.
The clinic will be held in The Warehouse carpark from 10.30am - 12.30pm.
