Taupo District Council's Turangi office will undergo a refit over the coming months in preparation for Department of Conservation staff to move into the building later this year.
While the work is taking place, Turangi Service Centre staff will move temporarily to Turangi Library where of all the usual council services will be available to the community.
Remedial work will take place on the building's roof as part of the scheduled refit. Work to remove internal walls to make the office space more open-plan will also take place to accommodate 18 DoC staff alongside two existing council staff.
Turangi Tongariro Community Board chair Andy Hema said the move to have DoC staff working alongside council staff was beneficial for the Turangi community.
"Bringing DoC and council together in this space will naturally allow more cohesiveness between the two organisations, which will mean better environmental and community outcomes for the southern Lake Taupo area.
"It also allows us to better utilise the building and bring more workers into Turangi Mall, adding to the vitality to the town centre."
Council staff will be based in Turangi Library from Friday, August 18 with refit work commencing shortly after this time. Council and DoC staff will move into the refurbished service centre building later this year.
