Delegation from Chinese friendship city visits

A delegation from Chinese city Shaoxing visited Taupo this week, further cementing the friendly relationship between the areas.
Deputy Mayor Barry Hickling welcomed the delegation from the Keqiao District, and said it was are very pleasing to see the relationship between our two districts flourishing.
He said he looked forward to continuing conversations with Shaoxing representatives, in particular the Chinese-owned Kawakawa Road, Kinloch subdivision development. Two of those in the visiting delegation have invested in the subdivision.
Mr Hickling said he also looked forward to seeing other joint projects come to life - the Shaoxing tourism promotion to bring visitors to the Taupo District, the stocking of Taupo product in the Shaoxing friendship cities shop and the development of an education exchange.
The Taupo District formed a friendship city relationship with Shaoxing to foster economic ties in 2014. The agreement was signed by Mayor David Trewavas and the Deputy Mayor of the Shaoxing Municipal People's Government, Xu Mingguong.
Shaoxing City is a historical and cultural city that covers an area of 7,900 square km and has a total population of 4.2 million. It is a popular tourist destination with numerous rivers, canals and bridges. The delegation included the mayor of the Kequiao District.
