Deputy Mayor Keith Crate resigns
Deputy Mayor Keith Crate has resigned from his position on Taupo District Council.
Mayor David Trewavas said it was with sadness he had received and accepted Mr Crate's resignation due to ill health.
Keith has been a loyal and trusted deputy and an amazing ambassador for both the council and the district, said Mr Trewavas.
We have worked on a number of projects together and he is known nationally for his ability to generate enthusiasm and support for many events held in the Taupo District, he said.
His contribution will be greatly missed around the council table.
Mr Crate, who was the highest polling council candidate at the October 2013 election, would remain active in the community through other roles as his health allowed. He will continue to chair the Taupo Half Marathon Trust and be a member of the Lake Taupo Cycling Trust.
Mr Crate said it was with great sadness he had tendered his resignation.
As a councillor I have felt challenged, stimulated, and supported through my work on council during the past three years and I leave knowing that I have made a positive contribution to our community, he said.
I thank all the people who voted for me in two elections and appreciate the opportunity to work with people, both in and out of council, to help make the Taupo District a better place.
Mr Trewavas said a deputy mayor would be appointed in due course.
Nominations for the Taupo-Kaingaroa ward seat vacated by Mr Crate will be called for later this month.
