End in sight for Great Lake Walkway

Work is progressing well on the Great Lake Walkway, which is being widened from 1.4 metres to 2.5 metres.
The section of path stretches from the Lake Terrace water treatment plant to the yacht club on Ferry Road and is being widened to make it wheelchair- and buggy-friendly.
The old path was not wide enough to accommodate the growing number of people using it and was starting to deteriorate.
A timber boardwalk was currently being built around a notable tree opposite Colonel Roberts Reserve, and this week all of the remaining pavers were removed to make way for the new concrete path.
Work is expected to be completed by the end of next week and open to the public for the summer holidays.
