ETA roundabouts to be tidied up
22 July 2014
Three roundabouts at major intersections on the East Taupo Arterial (ETA) in Taupo are being tidied up and planted with new trees.
The roundabouts are on the ETA at Wairakei where it meets state highways 1 and 5, at the intersection of Napier Taupo Road, and near Taupo Airport at the intersection of State Highway 1.
Weeding and spraying will begin this week, before trees and flax are planted in the gardens within the roundabouts. Work was scheduled for this month to ensure the plants have the best chance to thrive with the extra rain fall expected during winter and spring.
Taupo District Council's district manager of parks and open spaces John Ridd said there would be no disruption to traffic as work would be contained within the roundabout. This should get our roundabouts looking a lot nicer and improve the view for those entering town, he said.
The work is being done by contractors, Arco, who expect to have the work completed by the end of August.
