Events review aimed at maximising economic benefits
10 September 2014
An integration of Taupo District Council's event management capabilities is set to further cement the district's reputation as the Events Capital of New Zealand.
Strategic manager business development and support Will Samuel said the resignations of two key staff had allowed for the integration of the events roles and part of the events logistic team. This was aimed at maximising the economic benefits that events brought to the district and providing a better customer experience.
District events manager Nick Reader has resigned to take an extended holiday with his family. He will finish at the end of October. Events development co-ordinator Helen Kay has resigned to take up a position with Ironman New Zealand from the end of the month.
Mr Samuel said the pair had done some great work in retaining existing events and attracting new ones to the Taupo District and the new structure would build on the fantastic foundation they had laid.
Nick and Helen have done a great job and with them both tendering their resignations around the same time it provided us with a great opportunity to review how things were structured, he said. The new structure will allow us to maximise the benefits that events bring to the Taupo District, as well as optimising use of our venues.
The new look' district events manager position will be advertised from today. It is expected an appointment will be made in time to allow for a handover period. Anyone interested in applying should visit the careers webpage.
