Expressions of interest called for new building
26 July 2017
Taupo District Council is calling for expressions of interest from anyone interested in selling or leasing land - or land and a building - to replace its current Lake Terrace office.
The council decided in June not to proceed with a refurbishment of its main office building after several health and safety issues were identified, and confirmed its preference for a new building.
However, councillors chose not to confirm a site at that time and instead asked staff to investigate a number of council-owned properties in the CBD. They also asked for expressions of interest to be sought from anyone who may be interested in selling or leasing a site, and/or a building for the purpose of the new civic administration building.
Mayor David Trewavas said the council was committed to exploring all options before making a decision on the future of the building and how it would be funded.
"We want to make sure we understand all of the opportunities that may be available to us so we can make the best decision for our district and its long term future," he said.
"We also want to explore opportunities for co-location with other parties, and how we can create wider community benefits and achieve efficiencies in the way the business operates."
Respondents were being asked to submit proposals based on accommodating a building of approximately 2500m total floor area as required within the District Plan within the Taupo CBD, suitability for commercial offices, a Council Chamber, Civil Defence operations, public reception and meeting functions and provision on-site car parking that complies with the applicable District Plan requirements.
