Feedback sought on bylaws
1 August 2014
Your feedback is being sought on three bylaws under review by Taupo District Council to ensure any changes reflect the desires of the community.
The Taupo District Water Supply Bylaw 2009 is due for its five year review. This bylaw sets out how water use is defined and how this links to rates to make it fairer and easier to implement. The bylaw has been clarified and many irrelevant clauses have been removed. Some other parts have been transferred into the council's information pack on the water supply system to better inform customers.
A minor amendment is proposed to the Control of Dogs Bylaw 2013 that affects Pukawa. During consultation on a reserve management plan in the south western bay settlements, issues were raised about dogs conflicting with other reserve users at Pukawa South Recreation Reserve. The amended bylaw proposes dogs not be allowed on the reserve and lakeshore area between 9am and 7pm from December 1 until March 31. This brings Pukawa's restrictions into line with other busy lakeshore areas in the district.
The Taupo District Traffic Bylaw 2008 is due for its five year review and proposed changes are minor. Words have been simplified and definitions clarified.
To find out more on the proposed changes or to make a submission, visit www.taupo.govt.nz/bylawreview or one of the council offices. The proposals can also be viewed at Taupo District Libraries. Submissions close at 5pm, Monday September 1.
