Feedback sought on playground planned for Acacia Bay
2 November 2015
There's still time to have your say on the playground at Besley Park in Acacia Bay, which is set to be replaced with a new one in early 2016.
Taupo District Council is seeking feedback on possible options for the playground, which will be located across the road from the Acacia Bay Community Hall on Wakeman Road. It will be easily accessible and visible, with good access for maintenance vehicles.
The council has collected ideas and plans from a number of playground designers, and the Acacia Bay Residents' Association has shortlisted five for the community to consider. Each design features different equipment including slides, swings, ropes, see-saws and climbing structures.
District parks and recreation manager John Ridd said it was important Acacia Bay residents had a say in which equipment was chosen, as it was a community asset that would be there for generations of children to enjoy.
The designs we are looking at are interesting and unique, and we expect all of them would provide hours of entertainment for Acacia Bay children and their parents, he said. We want a safe, attractive playground environment that is specifically for Acacia Bay, so that's why it's so important we get feedback from the community.
The old playground equipment in the park behind the tennis courts is between 20 and 30 years old and difficult to access to carry out maintenance. As a consequence, some of the older equipment does not reach current safety standards. The tractor and part of the playground that has been assessed as safe will be left, retaining a play area near the tennis courts suitable for younger children.
All the information on the designs is available on our website, or go along to the community meeting being held at the Acacia Bay Community Hall between 4pm and 6pm on Tuesday, November 3 to share your views. Feedback is open until 5pm, Wednesday, November 4.
