Generators delivered to Taupo for Civil Defence
7 August 2014
Two of Taupo's biggest venues got a special delivery this week that will boost the district's capability in a Civil Defence emergency.
Both the Great Lake Centre and Taupo Events Centre are designated welfare centres in an emergency. Both could be used if disaster strikes, so need to be prepared to cope with power outages in order to be able to serve the community.
Falcon Electrical is installing the generators. The work will be carried out over the next few weeks and is scheduled to be completed by early September.
Taupo District Council's strategic project manager Andrew Boden said the generators would help ensure the district was prepared in the event of an emergency. Should a disaster occur in our district after these generators are installed, we will have a power supply in key locations when we need it most, he said.
