In the Taupo District for the long weekend? Boy, do we have plenty for you to do! Labour Weekend kicks off our busy summer season in the district and we are looking forward to a diverse range of events over the next few days.
Street art festival Graffiato is back for 2015, and will run from Saturday to Monday around the Taupo town centre. The festival sees street artists painting the town's walls and buildings in vivid colours, and the community and visitors can watch it all unfold as it happens.
The best part is that we're left with fantastic new murals brightening up our town centre! Make sure you head into town and see how it's done.
For sport and motorsport enthusiasts, we have the BMX North Island Titles competition on Saturday and Sunday at Taupo BMX Club at Crown Park. Over 700 entrants will be descending from around New Zealand and Australia for the event. Supporters and spectators are expected to number up to 3,500 - that's a lot of bikes, riders and supporters!
Motocross Fest will be happening Saturday and Sunday, featuring plenty of motocross action with juniors to veterans. The event is on at Digger McEwen Park and you can go along for $10 per person (under fives are free) or $20 a car load.
Arts and sports not your thing? How about shiny pick-up trucks? There will be a display of the finest at Tongariro Domain on Sunday from 10am to 3pm, along with live bands, competitions and spot prizes.
Fancy a spot of shopping? Head along to the Kinloch market from 9am to 2pm on Sunday at Kinloch Domain. The annual market is expected to have over 270 stalls and is getting bigger every year!
There's something for everyone this weekend in the Taupo District - we hope to see you out there!
