Giant bike decision deferred
2 October 2014
The decision about how Taupo's giant bike sculpture will be repaired has been deferred by Taupo District Council until next month.
The bike was vandalised and badly damaged in February on the eve of the Ironman New Zealand event. Councillors originally decided to accept an offer from a local engineer to repair the bike for the cost of materials only.
However the artist who built the giant bike, Marcel Zwezerijnen, and some individuals from the Taupo cycling community want the bike fixed by Mr Zwezerijnen, which Council decided on Tuesday to further evaluate and consider.
