Great Lake Walkway work moves to water treatment plant
28 October 2015
Work on the concreting and widening of the Great Lake Walkway has moved to the footpath by the Lake Terrace water treatment plant this week.
The Great Lake Walkway stretches from the plant to the yacht club on Ferry Road and is being refurbished to make it wheelchair and buggy-friendly. The path will be widened from its current 1.4 metres to 2.5 metres.
The old path is not wide enough to accommodate the growing number of people using it and is starting to deteriorate.
Contractors began work at the Ferry Road end and completed the first section up to Reid's Carving earlier this week.
They are now digging up the pavers along the second section by the plant and will then pour the concrete for the wider path.
Work will pause from November 20 to allow the Contact Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge to take place in late November, and then resume for the project to be completed by the end of the year.
