Do you want to minimise green waste and save money but don't know how to start? Why not try composting?
We are holding a series of free workshops in partnership with Taupo Community Gardens to show you how to make composting work in your own backyard.
Infrastructure manager Denis Lewis says the workshops will show people how to use composting to their advantage.
"It's a really simple process that not only helps out the environment by reducing the amount of waste going to landfill but it also produces fertiliser for the garden," he said.
The Taupo Community Garden team grows fresh produce for the local food bank and also supports sustainable living and waste minimisation. One of the ways they do this is by running a large composting operation that incorporates traditional composters and worm farms. They are looking forward to sharing their ample experience and knowledge with the community.
The first workshop will be held at 2pm on Saturday, October 29 at the Taupo Community Gardens near the Waipahihi sportsground on Richmond Avenue. Spaces are limited, so register online here or by phoning us on 07 376 0899. Discount vouchers for composters are available at our offices.
Workshops will be held on the last Saturday of every month except in December, and a full schedule of workshops is on our website here. All those who register and go along to the workshops go into the draw to win a composter.
