Aotearoa Quilters' Challenge
28 February - 30 March 2015
Fancy fabric and clever stitching will make up the latest exhibition at Taupo Museum with a touring display of unique quilts.
Members of the national Aotearoa Quilters association have taken part in their ninth biennial challenge and twenty quilts have been chosen to tour the country with this exhibition. The theme of the quilts is growth and the brief was to produce a quilt 60cm wide by 120cm high.
This exhibition of high-end quilts provides the public with an opportunity to view textile art at its best, exhibition convener Paula Cole said.
The quilting challenge was also a competition and the winning entry, Mother Earth', won its creator Kathleen Burford a Bernina sewing machine.
All quilts are all for sale but those who buy the quilts will not be able to take them home until after the exhibition completes its tour in June.
The exhibition runs from February 28 to March 30. Taupo Museum is open seven days from 10am to 4.30pm. Entry is free to children and Taupo District residents with proof of address.
