Holiday fun at Taupo venues
30 March 2015
Not sure what to do with the kids these school holidays? Taupō Events Centre, Taupō Library and Taupō Museum may have the solution for you.
Taupō Events Centre is running its regular school holiday programme from Tuesday, April 7 to Friday, April 17. There is plenty on offer for kids aged five to 13, with junior and senior groups undertaking activities designed for their age.
The programme includes rock climbing, gymnastics, baking, mystery trips, biking, team building, movies and swimming, to name a few. There is a Japanese-themed day and an Italian day for the kids to experience other cultures in their own backyard.
Community projects coordinator Sarah Wilson said it was great to see children were returning to the programme. We always try to offer something different and mix it up each holiday period, she said. Kids really love running around and we have plenty of space for them to do that.
Taupō Library and Taupō Museum are again running a combined free holiday programme. These holidays it celebrates the popular Geronimo Stilton book series. Children can attend fun, educational workshops, try their hand at karate, make coconut mice and explore secret codes.
Taupō Museum's Niven room will be transformed into a hands-on interactive children's space, designed to promote creative play and encourage kids to engage with the district's cultural heritage. In the lead up to Anzac Day, a time capsule featuring the contents of a bank deposit box belonging to a servicewoman from World War II will be on display for children to explore and learn from.
Library and museum manager Luisa Haines said the free activities were always popular. There is something to suit everyone from butter making and a pet shop day to arts, crafts and movie time, she said. All activities at the museum and some at the library had limited places. Where bookings were not required acceptance would be on a first in, first served basis.
Turangi Library also has a holiday programme with zombie crafts, paper models, card making and movies for five to 12 year olds. All activities at the museum and some at the library had limited places. Where bookings were not required acceptance would be on a first in, first served basis.
