Work is underway to prepare the site for the new temporary changing rooms at Turangitukua Park in Turangi.
The old clubrooms were removed after they were identified as containing asbestos, and a new temporary facility to serve the sports groups who use the park is to be installed. Taupo District Council has been working with users to identify their requirements.
Parks manager community and open spaces Julie Gordon said Taupo District Council and Tongariro-Turangi Community Board members met with the supplier of the converted containers and local contractors to prepare the site and locate services. Three engineered concrete foundations will be installed for the containers, which are being supplied by container conversion specialists Royal Wolf.
"There will be a changing and shower room for teams and a joint toilet facility, and the containers are being professionally converted and will be colour schemed to fit in with their surroundings. So though this is a temporary facility we are making sure it will serve the community well."
Work on the new changing rooms should be completed by early to mid-July, weather permitting.
