Puppies galore in need of homes
17 April 2014
The Taupō District Council pound will be open every day over Easter as staff try to rehome a huge number of puppies it has been inundated with this week.
The animal management team has its hands full with six times the normal amount of puppies in the pound looking for adoption. The puppies include a litter of nine five-week-old puppies and about 10 other mixed-breed puppies.
Because of the pressure the puppies are putting on resources and staff, the complex will be open from 12noon to 2pm from Friday to Monday in the hope the community will use their time off to find a new furry companion.
Environmental compliance manager Donna Little said it was not normal practice to open on public holidays but they wanted to give the puppies the best chance at finding a new home while people had time off to visit.
"The cages are literally full to the brim, the SPCA is full and we want these puppies to find loving homes," she said. "They are sweet little dogs and we encourage anyone thinking about getting a puppy to come and see us."
The animal management complex is off Delany Drive in Owen Delany Park.
