Re-cycled' art creations celebrate iconic event
Taupo Museum has combined recycling with bicycling to create art to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge this year.
Exhibitions officer Kerence Stephen said she was thrilled with the collection of artworks that had been created using recycled items by local artists and school children.
"The 40th anniversary of this iconic sporting event is something we really wanted to embrace through art and creativity and I'm thrilled with the creations made by those who took on the challenge," she said.
The exhibition, Re-cycle, will run alongside a 40th anniversary history exhibition of the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge event.
"We hope to have a lot of cycle-loving visitors coming to the museum to see the exhibitions as there will be something for everyone to enjoy, whether it's the history of the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge or the bike-themed art creations," Ms Stephen said.
Both exhibitions are open from November 5 to December 12. The museum is open seven days from 10am to 4.30pm and entry is free to children and Taupo District residents with proof of address.
