Reid's Farm work completed early
2 April 2014
Work on the felling of hazardous trees at Reid's Farm has been completed ahead of schedule, and the camping ground reopened today.
The popular camping spot on Huka Falls Road in Taupō was originally to be closed until Friday, but council staff worked quickly to complete the job. The closure was timed to cause minimal disruption to campers.
The trees that were removed posed a potential hazard in high winds so were removed to ensure public safety. It took two days to fell and remove the trees. Some cleaning up is still underway but this should be finished by tomorrow.
Parks asset manager Alison Rawley said campers are advised to avoid any machinery working at the edge of the camping area over the next couple of days, as work is still being done to tidy up the remaining debris and clear drains. She was glad the job could be done so quickly and efficiently. "We now have a great, safe spot for campers for the upcoming Easter holidays," she said.
