A pipe failure near the Kowhai Road sewer pump station at Rainbow Point has resulted in a large wastewater overflow into the lake this morning.
Contractors are on site and are using sucker trucks to clean up about 10 cubic metres of material.
Signage is in place in the affected area and will remain in place until water sampling results indicate safe levels.
It is the second wastewater spill into the lake in two days. A smaller spill at Two Mile Bay was reported on Monday.
Signage remains in place on about 500 metres of lakefront and water sampling is taking place on a daily basis.
